How to Use This Guide

What is the scariest part about writing a paper? Some students say research, others say writing papers, but I think most will say in capital letters - CITING!

As librarians, our job is to help you find answers to research questions, but we recognize the need for help when writing or citing your information in a paper, so we have put together a guide to help you.

The tabs to the left are self-explanatory.

PS You do not need to create citations that are color-coded. They are color-coded in the guides only as an aid to help you quickly identify which part of the citation goes where between the different formats.

Website vs. Webpage

Telling the difference between the website and webpage title causes confusion. Please refer to the examples below to help differentiate.

If you look at the bottom of this page, you will notice a table of contents for all the webpage's on Pinkie's website. You will note though that in the table of contents, the name of each page may not be the same as the one on the actual page. Always USE WHAT IS ON THE PAGE!!!

As you can see in the next screenshot, not all the information is always self-evident:

Because they give you the date in a gray that is almost the same color as the background, the date is all but invisible, so sometimes finding citation information is a scavenger hunt.

Commercial sites can be fun because titles are not always obvious. If you were to have cited the amazon.com homepage there would be no webpage title, only the website title.
